What are the opportunities in the food industry in India?

The food processing industry not only needs time, but also has the potential to bring prosperity to the rural economy and contribute to the country's socioeconomic development. This is definitely the way to a new future for India.

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) is taking all necessary steps to increase investment in the food processing industry by the Government of India. The Government has sanctioned 40 Mega Food Parks (MFP) to be established in the country under the Mega Food Park Project. Currently, 17 mega food parks are active.

Initially, the food processing industry was limited to food preservation and packaging procedures involving drying, salting, and pickling. Due to inadequate post-harvest, storage facilities, processing losses, mismanagement, inadequate packaging, fragile and equipped cold chain infrastructure, several billion billion agricultural products are lost each year.
However, in recent years, with the advancement of technology, the reach of the sector has grown enormously.
This has led to several opportunities in the food industry:
Ready to eat: Indian consumers are changing their diets rapidly. Trends indicate that eating on the go, eating in between, switching to healthy eating alternatives, eating pre-cooked and ready-to-eat, and increasing organic food intake.

Consumer Food: Segments such as packaged foods, healthy drinks, meat and poultry, bottled drinking water, carbonated beverages, and alcoholic beverages have shown tremendous growth compared to other sectors.

Organic Farming: Since the concept of organic food emerged, there has been a rapid increase in the use of organic farm food. With the production process and the food produced, many benefits have been added and the phenomenon of organic food is geared towards unprecedented growth.
Healthy Choices for Everyone: The relatively high cost of healthy food and drinks has traditionally prevented low-income people from buying natural, organic, or free ingredients. But with so many consumers living on tight budgets, there is a great opportunity for developers to develop low-cost, healthy food products.
